August 1, 2022Yonderin’ Tales ….. The Book
$25.00
Call your pup to your favorite chair and get ready for a little cowboy romance. Drift off with him to a simpler time and place. In fifteen to twenty stanzas Yonder will have you pushing horns north along a cattle trail, tracking a desperado on the run, gathering buffalo chips for a cow camp or holding cattle rustlers at bay. You might recall the sting of camp smoke, the familiar smell of sweat-stained leather or the quiet of a well-used barn stall. Thick cattle dust and snorty horses come to mind. Perhaps you’ll sense the pungent odor of burning hair and hide from a hot iron luring you to revisit those childhood days when you yearned to be a cowboy.
Foreword by five-time IWMA Entertainer of the Year, Kristyn Harris.
What They’re Sayin’ :
“Yonder, this skilled Montana Cowboy Poet, draws from his personal experiences on a cow-calf operation and horse ranch and, of course, an abiding love and respect for all things Cowboy. [His poetry is] . . . accurate, authentic and exceptionally well crafted.”
Rick Huff, Western Way Magazine
“Goodell’s got a keen insight into Western Life and it shines through in his poems. His way with words is incredible. His words speak to American life in a remarkable manner. For a refreshing take on the Western scene with a cowboy twist, Rik delivers! ”

From my point of view this book is like having at your call a whole range of short stories. Short stories that you can binge read or just read a few to rest and relax to. The fact that this Cowboy Poetry has been lovingly constructed to tell a story or declare a point of view is refreshing. Especially sharing the values of yesteryear. The Duke would have enjoyed this book. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and having paintings from popular artist to set the mood of the poem before you even start to read is a plus for me. The best place for this book? On the table beside my recliner.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always been an avid reader of novels. Westerns especially. Always thought I disliked poetry and short stories. Then I read Rik’s Yonderin’ Tales, and I’ve discovered a new kind of story telling. His work, spoken or written, is worthy of every positive adjective I can think of. Find myself rereading so many of them. “A Man’s Gotta ‘Do'”, might be my favorite. Maybe because I just became an octogenarian and his tale really nailed it.

I don’t think I have ever read a poetry book from cover to cover before. Rick’s poems get you so involved that you’re anxious to go on to the next one. A few of my favorites are “A Man’s Gotta ‘Do’, “The Fencin’ Crew”, “Daddy’s Blessings”, and Old Glory’s Story”.
