Too Little To Cross

You’re lookin’ a mite down Amigo
Whatcha’ got on your heart?
Oh, didn’t finish your to-do list?
Aww, ya know you did your part
Don’t get me wrong here
Cuz I surely do get it too
I always wanna finish chores
Before the day is through
But I’ve got a piece of advice
If’n you’ll let me jaw a bit
You’re wastin’ a good worry
That list don’t mean a whit
There were only twenty-four hours
As each day ends let it go
You gave them your best shot
And you always do, I know
Sure, you started with a list,
Ambitiously calling it 'to-do'
I never finish all my tasks
How 'bout goin' easy on you?
Remember your to-do list
Is always a mite too long
You plan it that ambitious way
So's to keep you goin' strong
But keep this in mind if you will,
The stock got watered and fed
Then you hoof-picked and curried
The horses, every single head
The time spent buckin' those bales
Will serve the stock when it snows
Sure, you took a quick break
But you needed it heaven knows
Did you walk with the Lord today?
Did you abide in his will?
Did you spend time in The Word?
Then you know God. Be still
Eat your supper and relax now
That list ain't goin' away
It will still be there tomorrow
When you're fresh for another day
Together we’ll set out to chorin’
Let’s see what we can get done
Two of us workin’ together
Is a dang sight better’n one
I call my ‘to do’ by another name
Labeling it a ‘List Not Yet Done’
Which leaves me a touch of grace
Tickin’ off any is better than none
Here’s the way I see it all
When the final tally comes to be
So long as I'm right with Jesus
That whatever list ain’t nothin’ to me

This painting, by Clark Kelley Price, of two pards having a chat, speaks to me of the friendships that develop over some tough trails.
